When 19-year-old teenger Elliot Gunton hacked the British ISP TalkTalk, he took the personal data and sold it on various forums. Then he collected the money to accumulate Bitcoins and other cryptos, which are now available at an auction.
While the court ordered the teenage mastermind to serve a 20-month prison sentence, the UK police took major steps. They took the initiative — first by gaining control of the crypto assets, and second by closely working with Wilsons Auctions.
Wilcons Auctions is the largest auction house in UK and Ireland selling bitcoins and other crypto assets on behalf of the UK authorities. The total value of these assets is, at the time of writing, around $662,000.
Details On The Bitcoin Auction
Wilsons Auctions has set no reserves, so the highest bidder will win the bitcoins and other crypto assets along with luxury goods. Please note lots ranging from 0.25 to 2 BTC will be auctioned across two days.
There are two phases:
- Online auction: Held on September 25th. Starts 12 noon GMT. (Only 24 hours)
- Offline + online auction: Held on September 26th. Starts 6 PM GMT. (Offline address: Belfast, 22 Mallusk Road, Newtownabbey)
Getting started: Please note, to participate in such auctions, you have to complete a registration form, share your identity (passport or driving license), and confirm a £500 deposit.
In the offline auction, physical bidders are invited to bid and takeaway crypto assets with luxury goods including watches, cars, and jewellery.
When it comes to crypto assets, you have Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, and other tokens available for auction. It will be interesting to see the results – and see if the tokens get sold above or below the market price.
