Over 25,000 Shopping Stores In France To Accept Bitcoin Payment

Imagine buying boxing gloves from Decathlon, then walking into Sephora for facial creams, and picking up a pair of Nike shoes from Foot Locker. And finally, as you walk to the counter, you pay for everything with your bitcoins.

This is not from 2050. In fact, this is going to happen very soon, as blockchain companies in France will install bitcoin payment in over 25,000 stores. These are stores where customers can use crypto (only Bitcoin) to buy any item. The merchants, on the other hand, receives EUR.

As reported by 20Minutes, stores including Decathlon, Sephora, Boulanger, Foot Locker, Maisons du Monde among several others will activate bitcoin payment before the first quarter of 2020.

Who Is Involved?

East2PlayPayment and the application EasyWallet, developed in partnership with Global POS, are responsible for bringing bitcoin to these stores. Also important to mention Global POS has been around for 14 years now. The company has developed point-of-sale software solutions for over 3000 retail stores.

This is a crypto-to-cash process, in which your crypto is converted into cash (EUR) and the merchant doesn’t have to deal with the volatility of the bitcoin.

But why limited to bitcoin? It is only in the initial phase. Stéphane Djiane, CEO and founder of Global POS, says in the press release:

“If, initially, the service we offer will only allow the use of bitcoins, our goal is to open our solution to other cryptocurrencies in the future.”

This move to add bitcoin to make payment aligns with the PACTE law, which is a new step in France to promote businesses. Many players, in the blockchain space, have been taking this retail route — as that’s where the consumers are spending their money.
